PERSONALITY;
The fact that Hibiki is a natural leader is apparent to everyone except Hibiki himself. He greatly values human life, and when in a crisis situation, he instinctively takes over to help others. He is not, however, fearless by any definition. When he and Daichi see their own death clips in the first episode, before they know that they're real, he is spooked and suggests leaving the train station instead of waiting around to see if the superstition behind the website was true. Instead, his ability to dive into danger only comes up when others are in danger.

He is fiercely protective of other people, his friends in particular, and frequently dwells on his own actions in relation to others. After he and his friends agree to work with JP's, he interupts an unrelated conversation between them to bluntly state that he'll protect them no matter what. This concern for others isn't limited to people he knows, as he comforts Io throughout the first episode in spite of the fact that they met that day, and when a little girl asks him for one of the drinks he was bringing back to his friends in the refugee shelter, he gives her his own without hesitation.

This genuine empathy for other people comes at a cost, however. Hibiki is shaken by the suffering of the strangers around him, responding with utter horror when he hears that other summoners have died and being visibly distressed by the suffering of the other people in the refugee shelter. This is to say nothing of his reaction to Keita's death, which he pins on himself for failing to prevent it. While he has no desire to fight, he feels responsible for helping others, and puts himself on the line repeatedly to help strangers.

Hibiki is often quick to put the pieces together when he has a problem to think through, and Daichi has stated that he's good at studying. He doesn't have any real ambitions for his future after going to college, although he is at least driven enough to want to get to college in the first place. He has no apparent guidance from his parents on this matter, as they don't seem to be close. When Daichi and Io are calling their parents after nearly dying in the train station, Hibiki doesn't even make an attempt to contact his family. He hears that they were evacuated from Daichi, whose mother passed along the information.

While Hibiki takes the lead in important situations, he often follows in social ones. His conversations with Daichi are lead by his friend, and he seems content to play along with anything his friend wants to do. He's also blunt in a way that betrays an understated playfulness, agreeing with Daichi when he says that he's probably screwed on his practice exams, and laughing and playing along with the horseplay that follows. His sense of humor in the game backs this up, as he frequently plays harmless practical jokes on people to cheer them up, such as sneaking up on a friend and shouting boo or accusing an older woman of being a pervert for walking into his room. This humor is rarely shown in the anime, where Hibiki's trauma over watching people die is more apparent, as there is no option for the player to carefully arrange events to prevent deaths.

FIRST PERSON; Thread on the Test Drive Meme
THIRD PERSON;
Hibiki's brain goes wild when he hits the ground. A moment ago, he'd been in a bedroom that was both his and not his, tucked away in JP's headquarters. He hadn't even taken his shoes off before collapsing onto the bed to try to think, and he's very glad of that now that he's in a brightly lit laboratory of some sort. He doesn't know where this is, and the sudden shift from a silent dark room to a brightly lit one with filled with happy chattering would be a shock even if there wasn't a pair of demons doing the chatting.

He frantically gets to his feet, grabbing for his cell phone as the monsters turn to look at him. He can protect himself and anyone else in the area if he takes them out here and now. They look like small fry, Byakko can probably handle this even without backup. The knowledge that he has to do this doesn't stop the surge of terror that tightens his stomach. He watched these things kill someone less than 12 hours ago, he knows better than to under-estimate demons now. He flips open his phone and--

It won't turn on.

Hibiki's stomach flips over violently and a wave of cold terror washes over him. He pushes his thumb hard into the power button as he turns to run. Without his demon, there isn't much he can do to protect himself, and he hears footsteps behind him as he runs. He needs to find somewhere to hide while he figures out what's wrong with his phone. He can worry about getting back to where he's needed after that; he's no use to anyone dead.
